Microsoft Notifies 400 Million Computer Owners That Windows Updates Will Stop Now

Microsoft has revised its disclaimer for users who want to take this risk, as Neowin noticed. The text is unambiguous: “It is not advised to install Windows 11 on this computer as it may cause compatibility problems.” Your computer will no longer be supported and won’t be eligible for updates if you install Windows 11. Your PC’s manufacturer warranty does not cover damage brought on by incompatibility. That threat is not new; it has existed for a number of years.

The upcoming end-of-support for Windows 10 in October 2025—just over ten months away—is novel, though. Users are forced to choose between upgrading to incompatible gear, making a change, or paying the new $30 support extension for just one year. Additionally, Microsoft now cautions that “by selecting Accept, you are acknowledging that you read and understand this statement” if you continue after Windows indicates that your computer does not meet the necessary specifications. This might be a rude surprise. That is the declaration that ends support for both software and hardware.
